Hi all !!

My name is Darko, i am from Zagreb, Croatia!
I am assembling Fiat 500
It is almoust ready for panting!

I am putting 650ccm engine from 126 with some modification and I am houping that you will help me with some problems!

I have read all old post and get some ideas!

I will put Fiat Panda 30 hed with Weber 40 from Alfa 1,3

Sport silencer

Lightener flyweel

Sport Cam witch my good friend bought in Poland
only I know that is 295

Abarth sump

Oil cooler and here is my first problem!

I have found in other post that I need drill up hole on oil cap and that is all the problem!

Question is, must I change oil pump spring or not and are there any other modification I must do to make it work??

Best regards
Darko

You do not need to touch the spring. You just need to weld the tube in the pump, like on this photo:

Looking at the photos I see that you are going to put there a 90 degree "elbow" pipe, so next thing you have to do is to weld the timming case cover around the "new hole" because it is very thin there. [on the photo that you gave it is also welded]

Thanx for the answer

when I am welding the tube on nr 1 in the next picture I assume i need to leave open passage for nr 2 slot (tunnel) ??

and weld the tube nr3 like on youre picture!

Must I now put the 5W-40 oil or I can put 10W-40 oil!
The 5w oil is rarely then 10W so it will bi easiser for the pump to push it through te oil cooler? or it doesnt mather?

best regards
Darko

Another problem

Can I cut all this that is marked?

The reason is I wanth to fit it in orginal ventilator housing!
I know that I can modified the housing but I wanth to look like orginal and I will have better heatin inside!!

It will bi cut away like orginal hed is cutted to fit the housing!
in this pictures I think it is cut away!!!

And this is modified housing, it realy looks very poor

Thnx Darko

Better don't cut the head, it can cause problems with thermal exhange and/or mechanical strength. Ventilator housing can be modified more nicely than shown on pictures

Thermostat housing is taken from 126 Bambino. Heating works well if you drive hard enough and engine produces enough heat

thnx!

The 126 Bambino is 126BIS (700cc water cooled engine) or ???

bambino = 126 from italy ( not poland )

126 Bambino is version of 126 with modified engine and some other things. Most important difference was modified cylinder head, it look similar(but not the same!) as in Panda. Thermostat housing fits nice on Panda head but ventilator housing not, because Panda head is a little bigger than Bambino, so IMHO modification of standard housing is best way of do it

there are some photos of Bambino engine

Look on rear(flywheel) side of engine, Bambino crankcase is slightly different than standard 126. It will be nice to weld remaining aluminum plates you can see on Bambino crankcase to 126 crankcase(I didn't do it during preparing the engine and I still regret it).

oooo I did not know that 126 Bambino existed
I saw pictures of that fan housing but didn know from what car is that!
Now I know

If you think of that "security" plates I have allredy weld it because that biger one was leaking oil so I weld it

It not possible to find that Bambino thermostat housing in Croatia, maybe in junk yard in Italy!! So easier way is to modified the original housing!!

EDIT:
If you can wait with thermostat housing to the end of June, I'll look around for it.

I see now! I was looking and looking at the pics and din not see that

I will weld it, it is not a problem, but why is that so important! Is crankcase stronger or??

I don need termostat housing right now! I will wait its not a problem!
Wery nice of you to look around for housing

It's importand because covers the cyllinders (it directs the air stream). But you can do it from the original tin termostat cover, you don't need to weld it on the engine block. I made it from standard cover, because I had no original. It is easy to cut, in the evening I will show you photo from the other side of the engine. Now the front - marked part is cut from original standard thermostat cover:

So the point is to seal all passes where air can go out before thermostat housing ?!

Yes, and not The most important thing is to cover the cyllinders sides if you don't do that, the cyllinders will have worse cooling. With this engine casing only the air that flows through the engine head goes to the thermostat cover (housing), and then inside the car. The air that flows through cyllinders goes to the engine compartment.
P.S. I forgot to do the photos...

The rear part under the engine head could be a bit higher...

woow
this looks very very good
Now I will take big attenton on how to cut, and weld all of that !!!

I see you have aftrer market distribution rod's valves case!
Did you buy it or made it youre self!
I have original ones for panda hed but they arent in good condition!

I bougt whole engine, so I had those covers, and they were in good condition - I only galvanized them.
But there is another possibility - you can drill bigger holes at the bottom of the head (where the original covers have their seats) and do the seats at the top of the head - then you can use original (long) valve tappets covers.

By the way - it's called pushrod tube not tappet cover
It will be easier to find something on the internet that way.

At last I found bambino thermostat housing. I thought I'll be able to give it to you during my visit in Zagreb but it wasn't possible

PS. It was terribly hot in Zagreb
