Of course. I had the 1.1SPI CC engine with 126p gearbox. After that I put the 1.2MPI fiat palio engine with the CC700 gearbox. Both engines were in the engine bay. You can see it on

http://www.126fan.pl in Swap Center you can find more engine conversions - 900, 1.1, 1.2, 1.4 and anothers. In my cause both engines and both gearboxes were connection by aluminium plate you can see
here. It's the manual how to put the 1.1 (or 1.2) engine into the 126 body (engine bay). If you want the plate like mine - write me - I can make it for you. I've sold something about 20 plartes and all of them are still working without problems in dofferents combinations engine-gearbox.
If you want have stronger engine I suggest make it as a mid-engine as Zoltar wrote. Then you need engine with the gearbox and all suspension from the original car. But then you must make more things to put this engine into body. How it looks you can also see on my web page - this is

It takes about 1,5 hours if you have all parts you need and you can do it yourself in the garage. What kind of parts you will need - my friends have already written.
